Why I Stopped Making My Bullet Journal Pretty with Katie
October 1, 2017Hello friends! It has been heavy in the swing of things as the students return to classes and instructors begin teaching again – which means I have been buried in to-do’s. Usually my weekly bullet journal layout can handle the tasks I have, but since the school year started I’ve needed to adapt my style a little bit – more on that later – in my trusty Rhodia notebook. In that spirit, Rhodia and I have been having fun partnering so we’re back with another bullet journal giveaway!

Update: October 7, 2017
Winners have been drawn and contacted!!! 🙂 If they fail to respond in 48 hours, I will choose a new winner!
We are raffling off not just one but THREE Rhodia Goalbooks. These are newer in the line and everything you love plus more. A few highlights of the new notebook:
- Same great 90gsm paper quality

2. The most challenging is probably turning my bujo into my own so having fun making it beautiful while keeping it functional. It’s hard to appreciate our work and its value when we see soooooo many great inspirations all around us. What i really love is the way it has simplified so many thibgs for me: no more post its all around the place hehe and it still amazes me to see what a great positive and helpful community the bujo has brought together !

2) The most rewarding thing about the bullet journal system is the ability to keep track of what I need to do and important data in a way that makes sense to me. The biggest challenge is remembering to keep it simple.
@journaladventure
The mostest rewarding thing about my bullet journal is that it’s a constant place for me to be creative and jot down notes or anything else to help me through school and life in general. I also love that if I mess up anywhere I can go with the flow or come up with a cool trick to hid it or try again 🙂

I’ve been bullet journaling a little over a month now and I’m hooked.
Most challenging: I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on my first journal in case I didn’t follow through (a historically valid concern). So I bought a $1 gridded notebook at Staples. The pages are so thin that the ink bleeds through easily and the binding is not great so a few pages have already fallen out (Elmer’s glue to the rescue!).
Most rewarding: No joke, no exaggeration. I am 31 years old and feel like I am FINALLY getting my s**t together!!! I have my budget, my to-do lists, my daily random notes, all in one place so I stop losing them (and my mind!). I feel like my BuJo gave me the tools to actually adult.
@breckenhand
Starting! There are so many options or ways to do it that I am overwhelmed just starting because I haven’t really found the way that works for me.

2) I’ve only just recently started journerling and so far it’s been really rewarding to see and track my productivity. I feel like I accomplish more and I always know what to do next – which helps when you are battling stress related depression on top of a master thesis! 😅 Anyway, I feel like I’m on track with things and is able to plan my days better and more creatively!
Thanks for at great giveaway and blog! 😃

2) The most challenging thing about bullet journaling is that it’s hard work to keep up with it, because my personality doesn’t lend itself to using planners very well, but it’s rewarding when it works.

2. I can be creative and my grades improve because Im no longer forgetting to write down assignments.
1) @jvkaselow
2) Most challenging part of using the bullet journal system is learning to accept that I won’t always get everything on my to do lists done on the exact day that I plan to, but they will get done once I make them a true priority.
1. @journaljing
2. Most challenging: keeping up with bullet journalling, especially towards the end of the month – my weeklies/dailies always become non-existent 20+ days into the month.
Most rewarding: learning how to be accepting of incomplete spreads – this has spilled over into my life and I find myself living less rigidly.
1) @bo_otje
2) Beginning! The most challenging part for me is that first page, I find it so difficult to just draw, write or just do something on that first page.. I would love to see some of those first pages of your bullet journals. 😊

Most challenging thing about using the bullet journal system?
🤔 I’ve been loving the neat and tidy look, of todo’s and checking them off, and having something creatively organised, but I find it difficult to remember the meaning of each symbol
1@myvalentinelove
The most challenging is to do it every day, like some days I am to tired that I just want to lay in bed and don’t do nothing but this system helps me to be creative and do things every day.
1) @shannondaring
2) Bullet Journaling is so rewarding because I can actually track my needs and then look back at what I’ve accomplished.
1) @ms.cendolife
2) I love bullet journal because of the flexibility. you can skip the weekly spreads as you like…put some note where you want…doodle….make layout of the planner as you like. it doesn’t matter….but it really works very well for me. I also enjoy the process msking the layout really. like make my own calender. you can actuslly just print the calender but for me making the boxes, writing in it, thinking or planning are so therpeutic 🙂

Comment: I love how I can track everything and make changes that suit my mood.

2. The best thing about the bullet Journal is being able to track my chronic illness and make it flexible for my health needs! 🙂

Most challenging about bullet journaling is narrowing down ALL the things I want to include from regular monthly/weekly/daily tasks to all out collections of favorite book/movies/places to visit past & present. The list can go on and on.
The most rewarding thing about bullet journaling is seeing how much I’ve grown in various areas of my life. I’ve always been a planner/ notebook girl but bullet journaling has taken me to new heights. Not only do I do the “basics” but I’m learning how to hand letter which is so relaxing.
@createndcry
I started my first journal in Jan of this year to help me organize my new home purchase and move. It was a simple spiral bound notebook and dollar store pen. It has really evolved into not only an addiction to learning new talents, but also finding new ideas, stickers and washi tape. I have never had a Rhodia and sure would love to try one. I journal in the evening to wind down, and relax at the end of the day.

2. The most challenging about having a bujo is to start it. Just thinking about what I would like to write down or what layout I’m gonna do or what pen I’ll use gives me a lot of anxiety but it also has helped me to stop trying to do things perfectly.
1. @bookerwitt383
2. I think the most rewarding thing I’ve gotten out of bullet journalling is that I’m just a happier person. Not that I wasn’t a happy person before, but I am even more now.I’ve discovered so much about myself and things of this world, such as fountain pens, monthly challenges, and I’m still keeping up with creativity through my journal. I’ve learned how to write about my anxiety/stress, which helps me find solutions to surpass the problem. I’ve learned how to take more meaningful notes and keep a book log. Soon I’m going to be starting a prayer journal. I’ve also become a better planner as a teacher. It’s just done so much for me. The challenge is deciding which notebook to use next 🙂
1. @chrisabells
2. The most challenging would have to be consistency of use, and the layout problems that (personally) come with it. 2016 was a very easy year in terms of using a bullet journal. 2017 has been so much harder since I have a different job. I’ve been trying to find a layout that would not give me blank days for when I’m not able to use my bujo (I like seeing all the days of the week rather than not putting some days in at all), and I saw one that might work just the other day. I’ll try a running task list out this October. 💪💪💪
@nnilles
Quite some time ago I picked up a Rhodia planner notebook and fell in love with it. Since then I have pinned, followed, practiced, and collected for my planner future. I love the simplicity or the complicated way you can keep your planner. And it’s OK to make mistakes! I love a good brain dump!
Hello!
First of all, thank you so much for your bullet journal posts – your mental health posts are incredibly helpful and useful in my life!
My IG handle is somanytigers and the most challenging thing about my Bullet journal experience is also the most rewarding.
I struggle with finding a layout that works for what I need but after months of playing around and going on/off of bujoing I feel like I am for finally getting closer to what I want out of the system.
I am quick to quit on things but bullet journaling is one of two things I refuse to give up on no matter how many times I feel like I fail.
Every time I go back to it I feel like I’m chipping away at my fears and terrible procrastination/perfectionist habit.

2. The most rewarding thing about bullet journaling is that I can finally stay on top of everything going on in my life and make it seem not so hectic! ☺️
1. @kal22
2. The most rewarding thing about my bullet journaling is that I can keep on top of things, at home and at work, and track my habits/moods in order to see how certain things affect me. It is something I look forward to doing everyday – it’s my “me time”!
1.) @the.new.mrs.smith
2.) I find it difficult to keep up with it daily, weekly seems to be working a little better for me.
1. @pillywiggin1145
2. When it comes to my bullet journal, what isn’t a struggle? I am still working on the basics–finding a size I like to work with and a notebook design that fits me. I really struggle with comparisons to other people’s journals. I know I shouldn’t compare my books to others, but I love the layouts and beautiful designs that many people create in their bullet journals. I would love mine to look that way, but it doesn’t. Part of the reason is lack of natural artistic talent, but unwillingness to put the time in is a factor, too. I do use many colors, which helps it to not look so boring. The most rewarding thing is that in whatever form it takes, the bullet journal does help me plan tasks and complete projects. The extra organization leads to better completion of my personal goals, so that makes it worthwhile.
1) @em2141
2) I love seeing my progress when I’m doing well. Writing things down helps me stick to them and follow through. Hardest part is finding a great layout. I tend to be a little OCD about it so it takes longer than it should to set things up. I also wish I was as artistic as I think I am.
@aisaacswrites I’ve been bullet journaling for a few years. It took me awhile to figure out a personal system, but now I would never go back.
My insta is joyce_and_art. Most challenging thing about my bullet journal is keeping it going. Most rewarding is being organized
1. @lje0512
2. The most challenging aspect for me is to keep consistentband review at the end of the day. I am really good at starting a day with daily page but horrible to look again at the end of the day and wrap things up! I really want to get good handle on this and feel like I can with this goal book!
1. @chaneyfam
2. The most rewarding thing is to look back through my bullet journal and see that I actually did a lot this year! The challenging thing for me is getting out of the habit of using it daily and then having to re-dedicate myself to using it, and benefiting from it again and again. But when I do use it daily it helps me out so much!
@dlveck
The most challenging thing for me has been realizing that I have NO artistic skills. No matter how much I practice, a simple cactus drawing will always look like a 3 year old drew it.
Thanks so much for the inspiration.
1. @sashamillergilbert
2. I love the flexibility of the BuJo – it can be whatever I need it to be: idea keeper, organizer, creative outlet, motivational tool.
1. @c_langley0912
2. The most rewarding part of using a bullet journal is seeing how far I’ve come with my goals and habits. It’s also fun to read about the things my toddler has done. The hardest part is not overdoing it on the pages. So many people have so many fun ideas, that it can be easy to feel overwhelmed with what to put in and what to leave out of your bullet journal.
@ashundone
The most rewarding aspect is being able to finally plan things out with so much flexibility! I feel organized but not constrained.
The most challenging aspect is traveling with it. I lose my routines and sometimes I literally lose my journal!! I’ve left it (and the rest of my brain) behind in another country!
@janelleweethee
The most rewarding thing is to look back on progress/memories. Such a joy!
1) mommiedeerest
2) being over inspired is a problem but with a bujo I can have a different planner every day rather than being locked in to a specific layout.
You can find me on IG @planner_lianne
I originally started a bullet journal this time last year as a way to do some creative calendars and lists. I looked up on Pinterest and found tons of ideas, I went and picked up a notebook at Marshall’s and just started with a basic monthly calendar and then started a Habit Tracker, went to a Happy Planner. When my kids were small I did Scrapbooking and this reminds me of that. I hope to get back into the memory/photo keeping again.

2. I’ve always like journaling but could never stick with it. The bullet journal keeps everything together and helps me keep journaling! I’ve gotten so much more done 😊
jlkostka
The most rewarding thing about the bullet journal is marking things done. I feel very accomplished when I review my week and see all the things I have completed!
@geekygirl09 is my Insta!
Bullet journaling has been a game changer for me. I’m big on starting a million projects and abandoning them halfway through because I’m easily distracted. But with my journal that hasn’t happened yet after over a year, and it’s helped me to stay consistent with my other projects as well. It has helped me feel happier, healthier, more motivated and more creative. I love it!
I have never even heard of bullet journaling until this week, but I soooooo want to get started! I cannot find a planner that does what I need. This is the perfect answer for me. 😍 @essentiallyemily19
@the.littlest.bujo
The most rewarding thing about bullet journaling for me is its completely customisable nature, continually modifying and updating my spreads keeps me interested and engaged whilst my bujo remains relevant to the requirements of my life.
1) zoeyrm
2) The most challenging thing about the bullet journal system is getting started. You see all these pretty spreads and stationary supplies everyone else is using and when you can’t make ones as nice at first you get a little discouraged. However I stuck with it and once you find some go to spreads that work with your schedule and life it starts to look really nice.
1. I’m @kimaxi13
2. I just started bullet journaling and the challenge of getting it set up is killing me… I keep wanting to add different areas, I need another journal to add the other things – my mental health section, fitness section, holidays, meal planning, pets, kids, work, etc… I need more journals!
@joannadettling
The most rewarding part of bullet journaling is getting myself focused and finally getting some things done!
1. @bekahsjournal
2. The most challenging thing for me has been accepting mistakes. I am a bit of a perfectionist and I always have a plan of how things should look, but sometimes something goes wrong and I’ve had to learn to accept it over time. As you can probably tell, my bujo isn’t anywhere near as amazing as most people’s, but that’s okay. It’s mine and it works for me. It helps me to keep my mental health in check and it helps me with staying focused on the next task ahead ❤️
1. Ditzxviii
2. I’d have to say finding the perfect spread to us is the most challenging thing. I haven’t found the perfect one yet but I do like simple ones 🙂
