Happy Thursday all – I’ve reached a pretty cool milestone doing this whole side hustle thing where I’ve been able to invest in an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil (affiliate links). It’s humbling to know that all the hard work has paid off and now I get to re-invest in my business, which hopefully means more goodies and fun things like worksheets. Since I’m teaching more classes, it’s been super helpful to be able to more quickly digitize practice sheets and exemplars for folks rather than staying up until 3am clicking on points and anchors (real story).
On that note, if you’re in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, you should totally come to my workshops at Wet Paint! I have a class for handlettering on October 2nd and a class for brush calligraphy on October 9th. I suspect that more dates will be added, too!
Every so often, I think we need a little reminder of the gifts we each bring – especially in social media land it’s hard not to compare with one another and think about ways we fall short. As an aspiring master teacher, as a late-20-something, blogger, creative, I’m always telling that voice in the back of my head to shut up and let me feel proud of what I have and what I bring. In so much of my life I have only looked ahead at where I have left to go, and seldom stop to look at where I came, or to just be content with doing what I’m doing. There’s always someone doing something better, and it’s a setup to try to “keep up.” If I listen to that voice, it keeps me from being honest with myself and others, it keeps me from being fully creative, and it keeps me from taking risks and enjoying what’s going on in general.
So, today I’m sharing a little piece as a reminder for myself – and perhaps it will remind you too. It’s set to be a 5″ x 8″ piece, but you can resize it to suit whatever your needs are. If you right click and save it, you should be able to print it out, or manipulate sizing on a Word document. Please only download for personal use – selling other people’s work as your own makes the Universe sad, so don’t do it.

Congratulations on reaching the milestone! It is inspiring to see your hard work and sincere dedication show results <3 Keep on going!
I love brush calligraphy 😀 I wish I could've been in the area to attend your workshop, Jessica, it sounds great.
The print is perfect <3 simple yet powerful. I remember seeing a beautiful bracelet a few days ago with this saying 😀 https://www.gearbubble.com/empowered We need more of this optimism and motivation, keep on spreading the goodness 🙂
Thank you SO much Maemi – I would LOVE to get a bracelet like that… maybe with my own lettering etched into the side! Thank you for spreading your light 🙂
Jessica, what a beautiful reminder. Thank you for making it available to us.
We need as many reminders as possible, I think!
Congratulations for your milestone and thanks for sharing this beautiful quote and lettering! I’m going to use it as a wallpaper for my phone 🙂
oh I LOVE that!! If you have other recommendations I’ll add them to the list 🙂
Thank you-a definite keeper and reminder
hope it helps you remember the message 🙂 I sure need the reminder
Such pretty lettering! This reminds me of a quote I by Max Ehrmann: “If you compare yourself to others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.”
Such a true statement. And if we can be content with who we are in the moment….. (I’m working on it!)
I may have to print that (poster printer) for my classroom 🙂
National coming out day is October 11 – maybe letter something equity-related for that?
OH I LOVE THAT. Of course.
That’s a wonderful milestone, congratualtions! And thank you for the download 🙂
