Why I Stopped Making My Bullet Journal Pretty with Katie
October 1, 2017Hello friends! It has been heavy in the swing of things as the students return to classes and instructors begin teaching again – which means I have been buried in to-do’s. Usually my weekly bullet journal layout can handle the tasks I have, but since the school year started I’ve needed to adapt my style a little bit – more on that later – in my trusty Rhodia notebook. In that spirit, Rhodia and I have been having fun partnering so we’re back with another bullet journal giveaway!

Update: October 7, 2017
Winners have been drawn and contacted!!! 🙂 If they fail to respond in 48 hours, I will choose a new winner!
We are raffling off not just one but THREE Rhodia Goalbooks. These are newer in the line and everything you love plus more. A few highlights of the new notebook:
- Same great 90gsm paper quality

- 2 ribbon bookmarks
- So many colors
- Not quite a soft cover but not a hardcover
If that sounds like something you’re interested in, join me for a quick giveaway! (More details under these terms and conditions)

The most rewarding is that I love how organized I have been lately. I’m also trying to be a little more artistic which is fun and relaxing on stressful days.
@mikes10663
My biggest challenge is that too often if there is not much I need to put down or to plan ahead, I tell myself that it will be easy to finish it up later. Then I either forgot what I was going to enter or I forget to do it at all.
@planningzoo_melissa. My biggest challenge is being sure to give myself some time to set up my daily and get my day in order.

The most rewarding about bullet journaling is seeing most task/projects get done and checking them off.

The most rewarding thing about bullet journaling is doing what you want in it! It’s definitely mine and for me and my crazy lifestyle…I can’t imagine my life without it now!

I think one of the biggest benefits to using a bullet journal is it’s a creative outlet that’s also useful. I don’t feel as guilty for spending time doing it, knowing that it’ll not only encourage me to use it, but also boost my mood.
The hardest part has to do with me being a perfectionist. If I have to cross anything out or if the colors just don’t look right, I get so bothered. I also compare it too much to others (like yours)!
@lilmonkeyz
The most challenging thing about using the bullet journal is filtering out what actually needs to be on the list and what doesn’t.
Being organized and showing my littles different ways to still be creative is great! I want to introduce each of my 3 ladies to this journal!!!!

I like the forced time to slow down and look at things visually.
@smgorecki
The most rewarding thing about bullet journaling for me is that I now have one solid place for everything in my head – events, appts, deadlines, a place to journal quick notes about my day, lists lists & more lists. Since starting my bullet journal in April, I am the most organized and the least stressed I’ve ever been!

The most rewarding thing about bullet journaling to me is that it’s a method of organization that’s fun! I always loved crafts growing up, this is like my big girl colouring book!
My biggest challenge is archiving – knowing what to keep & joe to keep it at the end of a book. For instance, if I’ve taken notes from a book, I don’t have a good system for locating that info again when I’ve moved on to another index and notebook. (On IG, I am @knitspinread)
@keepkindness
My biggest challenge has been learning to accept my handwriting is not as lovely as I would like.
@piper6
the challenge for me is always the war between wanting to make it pretty and needing to make it functional. it’s a war because the time constraints in my current life allow for one or the other…rarely both!

Biggest Challenge: Remembering to use the system every day!

I love how adaptable bullet journaling and let’s me be creative but I definitely need to be more consistent with putting in entries into my journal.
@elfkids
Challenge to find time…..
@marlaggard :
I used to carry multiple notebooks since I have so many random brain dump thoughts. With a bullet journal I only need to carry one and it all goes there. What’s more is that I can keep the journals and go back through them once in a while.
Thanks or the giveaway! My biggest challenge with bullet journalling has been setting aside some time every day to keep it up to date. It’s so incredibly flexible, though. I can spend an hour drawing, sticking ephemera and photos in, fooling around with washi tape, and writing little snippets about my days; or I can quickly tick off items on my daily to-do list and fill out my trackers.

My biggest challenge is deciding on how I should set up my weekly, and daily logs. My mind sometimes goes blank and looking at how pretty other’s can do its kind of make me want to be creative but also makes me feel like poop. lol, I’m glad the bujo is so flexible. – @roobyread IG
@casscalligraphies
For me, the most challenging thing about the bullet journal system is that sometimes I don’t keep up with it. I can be forgetful sometimes when life gets crazy and remembering to write things down or creating a new weekly/monthly spread is a struggle.
I actually haven’t started bullet journaling yet as I’m looking /deciding on my perfect notebook!

The most rewarding part of using a bullet journal is its ability to be totally custom. I can switch it up or use it in a completely different way each time. It’s a way to work on creative processes while also being productive. I LOVE it.

The most challenging thing is just starting and really giving bullet journaling an honest try. I get so inspired by the layouts I see on Instagram, but then so intimidated! So I hesitantly sketch out a layout, but never fill it in because I want it to be perfect and it’s not. I know that it’s a process of seeing what works, by trying SOMETHING (anything!) and allowing myself to make those mistakes (and discoveries!) to find those things that work for me. It’s a matter of letting go of this unrealistic expectation that it’s going to be perfect right off the bat.
@tdatugreen
The most rewarding thing about bullet journaling is that I have the freedom to create anything my brain comes up with! I can change to a new template from page to page and I am not bound by pre-drawn lines/boxes!
I love my bullet journal. The most rewarding thing is that I can be as random as I want and not feel guilty. @danastege
1) @jayy.pham
2) the most challenging thing is the fear of making mistakes
@megfyfewatkins 🙂
My biggest challenge is planning into the future – I’m scared I’m going to forget something because I’ve been planning as I go (and as a new mama of 2 it’s hard to find the time to really get all my kinks worked out and keep up with everything). I’m working on customizing to suit my needs and find what works for me!
Hi Jessica! I always enjoy reading your posts/emails, so I just signed in to Instragram and followed you and Rhodia there for the giveaway. 🙂 (@Lindaskyebrown) My biggest challenge is making time to get things set up… I used to worry about making things perfect but now I’m more about getting it done. 🙂
Rewarding? Having a creative outlet for being artistic in ways that don’t need to take a lot of time or space.
Thanks!
@madjoylove
Figuring out what really works for me has been challenging. Especially with so much amazing inspiration everywhere, it was hard at first to focus on function – which is my real priority in my bullet journal.
@GoddessStrong
I have the biggest issue just to keep journaling!! I do great for a few weeks or months, then fall off. Over and over!! I really what to keep track of all the things I have to do, but just can’t.
hi ! i’m @toastedturtle94
i use the bullet journaling system simply bc it works for me and how my brain handles all the mess of information we process daily . i can write all my thoughts out, as random as they seem and categorize them with symbols and keep track of it like, tasks to do, notes, upcoming events, wishlists, whatever . i find it efficient to have everything in one place, though it may not look simple at first glance or work for others if they don’t keep up or refer to their journal as they progress
@lesliekmaddox
The most rewarding thing is being able to look back on all you have accomplished and how you have progressed!
@unraveledfantasy
The most rewarding part of the Bullet Journaling is that it helps to me be more productive and have a positive attitude.
@alohalovelyletters The most rewarding part of using a bullet journal is being organized and keeping track of everything with a bonus of being artistic.
The most challenging part about bullet journaling is simply sticking to it! The most rewarding part is that feeling of satisfaction when a page is filled up and pretty. My insta is @lorenzarz

I love practicing lettering and my handwritin ng in my bujo
@cc.illustrations
The most rewarding thing about the bujo system is that it just allows me to get things done. I enjoy the organization aspects of the system and how it allows me to get my thoughts down.

The most challenging things about using the bullet journal system for me are consistency, and wanting all my spreads to be perfect and look pretty.
@wellbean
Still challenged to split up big projects into doable tasks so I keep resenting the unfilled boxes that stare back at me all week.
@ayeaye_matey
Most rewarding aspect: The flexibility and ability to keep all of my notes and to-dos in one notebook.
Most challenging aspect: Taking the time to reflect every day/week and make changes as needed.

Sometimes days went by and I felt like I accomplished nothing – but with bullet journal I can see (in a cute way) how much I accomplished, so I guess this is the most rewarding aspect. It’s also great to know myself better.
The most challenging aspect is that sometimes I try to do so much at one that I get overwhelmed.
emmab250989
I love that when i feel i need that extra time for myself i can make my journal pretty, but also when i dont have time keeping a bullet journal has helped me feel more structured and productive! I find it fantastic for my wellbeing 🙂

I love a to do list, I love tracking habits, putting dates on a calendar and being creative. I get overwhelmed creating new layouts in my journal–I overthink them, want them to be perfect, pretty, and clever. But it’s always worth it in the end–no risk, no reward!
@soquma
My biggest challenge still is how to make myself use monthly spreads. I am having a hard time carving out time for a nightly planning routine, thus they often are forgotten. I decided not to add any monthly trackers into October, but I think it is a pity not to have them.
The most rewarding about bullet Journaling for me is being all creative on my pages. I’m back to Drawing more than ever and I’m glad that I did start Journaling cause I missed being on my creative side. I take time for myself to make art and showing myself what I can do. Plus having a layout plan for me has been rewarding…!
@anugrahajo
The most challenging thing about the BuJo for me is creating spreads and layouts to go with the latest, new demands of life. In other words, my perfectionism. Also, how fast I blow through my bullet journals (and the implied moving into new BuJos).

There is so much that has been rewarding for me in using the Bullet Journal system. Probably the biggest reward has been how much it has reduced my anxiety and stress in a variety of ways. I’m time blind, and I used to have to work very hard to try to stay oriented as to what day it was and where I was supposed to be, and sometimes I’d still miss something and feel terrible about it. With the Bullet Journal, I set mine up with the redundancies I need to track all that, and before I go to bed I’m writing the next day’s name and date and appointments and known tasks, and I cannot begin to express the stress load that has removed from my life. It has helped me organize myself in ways I never would have thought possible, and it’s given me even more space for creative outlet, which is another big stress reducer for me. It’s such a blessing.
These notebooks are really beautiful! Thank you for hosting this giveaway, Jessica!
@bromlebi
I think the most rewarding thing about my bujo is that i rediscovered my love for planning AND journalling. The community gives so much inspiration, love, help and support, whereas other “industries” are very cold and competitive!! This has been very important for me, and i’m so grateful to be part of it:)
@West_Coast_Angel
What I find rewarding about using a bullet journal is that fact that I can customate it to my needs…
